Swedish motorcycle registrations

Sweden: total motorcycle registrations +10.29% YTD

The latest data available from the motorcycle industry trade association in Sweden (McRF) shows new motorcycle registrations up by 10.29% for the five months to May 2019 at 6,111 units.

However, though on statistically low monthly units, the trend in the Swedish market may be softening with motorcycle registrations at -2.65% (1,981 units) in May, having been +55.69% in March (1,244 units) and +4.40% in April (2,181 units).
Niklas Kristoffersson, CEO of McRF, thinks that given the poor weather this spring, compared to 2018 and especially in May, "this selling season has actually gone quite well so far, and better than 2018 by around 10% in motorcycle terms".
The Swedish moped market is only slightly down YTD at -2.74% (5,284 units), meaning that total new PTW registrations are up, but only by +3.84% YTD on 11,395 units.
In 2018 new motorcycle registrations were down for the full year at -10.83% (10,279 units), with Mopeds up by +22.71% (16,155 units), putting total new PTW registrations at +7.06% (26,444 units) for the year – the highest such figure for several years.
