Italian motorcycle registrations +10 percent for year-to-date
The latest data to be released by the Italian motorcycle industry trade association (ANCMA) shows the motorcycle market there up by +15.7 percent in April (8,665 units) and +9.9 percent at 25,031 unites for the year-to-date.
In total PTW terms Italy was up by +5.9 percent in April (21,498 units - the best April since 2012) and is +0.9 percent for the year-to-date at 57,236 units - also the best since the 72,280 total PTW units sold in the first four months of 2012.
Of those 57,236 units, 32,205 of them are described as scooters, and that figure is down by - 5 percent over the first four months of 2014, with the share of the market being taken by motorcycles (25,031 units) up by +9.9 percent.
Unsurprisingly, now it is fully in production and in Italian showrooms, the Ducati Scrambler is reported as being the best selling motorcycle, followed by BMW’s R 1200 GS and Yamaha's MT-09 Tracer.
Three out of the top-ten best-selling scooters are Hondas (their SH 125 is the best seller in Italy), with four out of the top-ten sellers being Piaggio models (their Beverley 300 is the second best seller); the Yamaha TMAX 500 is the third best seller.
'Naked' style bikes are the most popular motorcycles in Italy, and grew by 29.8 percent in first three months of the year, with Enduro style models the next strongest. Traditionally always an important sportbikes market, only 1,677 such models are reported as having being sold in Italy in the first quarter of 2015, which is less than the 2,538 custom-style bikes and 2,175 Tourers sold in the first three months.
