Swiss market

Swiss market up again - 6th largest in Europe

The latest data released by the motorcycle industry trade association in Switzerland shows new registrations there at +21.89 percent for August (1,804 units); +18.05 percent for the year-to-date (23,828 units).



Although there is no direct comparison between sources, ACEM data shows 39,847 new motorcycle registrations for the whole of 2014 - making Switzerland the 6th largest market in the whole of Europe.
In total PTW terms Switzerland was +20.84 percent in August (4,123 units); +9.37 percent YTD (40,793 units).
Yamaha is the top selling motorcycle manufacturer so far this year in Switzerland (4,518 units, +42.79 percent up YTD) with its MT 07 and MT 09 the best and second best sellers there (their MT 09 Tracer is fifth), with BMW second (3,337 units, +18.84 percent YTD) and Harley-Davidson third (2,901 units, -3.49 percent YTD) and Kawasaki fourth, Honda fifth. The BMW 1200 GS is the third best selling model, followed by the Ducati Scrambler.
The total motorcycle 'park' in Switzerland has continued to grow every year since 1998 and most years since 1990, standing at 424,495 units by the end of 2014, with an additional 274,724 scooters registered for road use.
