7-spoke ‘Black Mamba’ – “the world’s most advanced carbon fibre wheel”

That is the claim that ISO 9001-2008 accredited and TUV Rheinland certified manufacturer Blackstone TEK is making for the latest addition to its ‘Black Mamba’ series of carbon fibre wheels.

Designed, tested and fully manufactured in-house at their Johannesburg, South Africa factory, founder and co-owner Gary Turner says these wheels round out the ‘Black Mamba’ line-up with a conventional rear wheel and technology that has “never been seen before.”
“With the release of these wheels we are moving the composite wheels manufacturing industry to the next level,” says Gary.
“With our new BST designed, high-pressure forged composite drive side, we are leading innovation in the design and manufacture of pre-preg monocoque carbon fibre wheels.”
The wheel is designed to optimise stiffness, strength and rigidity, whilst maximising performance. “This is the “most carbon fibre” wheel in the world, and quite simply delivers better everything – better strength, weight, inertia and performance – better than everything else.

“At the same time the front wheel has been optimised to reduce weight and improve inertia values. Ours are the only carbon fibre wheels that conform strictly to the JWL (Japan Light Alloy Wheel) impact standards as implemented by all major manufacturing and international testing facilities, and this new, straight 7-spoke is no exception.”
The 3.5” by 17” front wheel weighs in from 2.4 kg complete and has a static load rating of 150 kg; the 6” by 17” rear rates at 280 kg, weighing in at 3.2 kg, excluding the sprocket carrier. The hubs are in 6082-T6 heat-treated aluminium.
The conventional rear is interchangeable, so it can be used on different motorcycles simply by replacing the brake adapter and sprocket carrier on models from manufacturers, including Bimota, Ducati, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha. Available to order now, all BST wheels carry a 2-year factory warranty.
