High quality Matris “entry level” options
Italian suspension specialist Matris is well known for its top-end products with advanced features and high-tech components. However, the company also offers what is calls its “entry level” line – a programme that doesn’t compromise on quality or precision engineering, but offers a start point pathway for those looking to upgrade the handling of less expensive motorcycles.
The M46KD is an easy to use and adjust rear shock for naked and road bikes, that allows the road user to get the right set-up.
Computerised engineering systems are used to design, test and produce all the components, and as with all Matris products, “only materials of high-end technical and mechanical characteristics are used,” says founder and owner Alberto Turcato.
“Our M46KD features high-precision machining with the objective of reducing weight and friction to offer a basic range of shocks to improve comfort, safety and performance, but still with the characteristic ‘Matris look’.
“It is a fully rebuildable and fully revalvable single-way mono shock with adjustable rebound; the cylinder has an inner pressurised nitrogen gas (N2) expansion tank with full floating piston for gas/oil separation and a spring in alloy steel that is available in different rates based on the bike and load.”
It is also available with up to 9 mm ride height adjustment for a customisable setting and supplied as standard with spring preload by millimetric rings; up to 7 mm adjustable spring preload also available.
Also in the Matris “entry level” offer, the F15K hydraulic fork cartridge kit completely replaces all the existing fork internals. It allows modification of a conventional non-adjustable fork into a fully adjustable fork, offering spring preload, compression and rebound asymmetric adjustments, as in a sports fork type, for a greater custom setting.
Alberto says that “it can be set up much more accurately for each rider, making the fork more precise, more adjustable, and easier to use … better in every respect. No modification of the original fork is required for assembly, and the kit is completely serviceable for proper and regular maintenance.”
The 20 mm diameter fork cartridge cylinder and 12 mm piston are made in aluminium alloy with a lapping and hard oxidation surface treatment. The anti-cavitation compression and rebound valves are machined from billet aluminium and have their own dedicated shims set for total control of hydraulic flow.
Finally, in the Matris “entry level” upgrade offer, their SDK steering damper with adjustable “speed sensitive” progressive hydraulic damping system “improves the control of the front axle, damping all the oscillations and the rapid setting changes.”
Features include twin tube system with outer titanium cylinder and aluminium alloy coaxial internal cylinder and high tensile alloy steel piston rod with hard chrome coating. The external tank for controlled heat compensation of fluid expansion is pressurised with nitrogen gas (N2) for greater stability at high operating temperatures.
