Italy: motorcycles +12.70% in February
The latest data released by ANCMA, the motorcycle industry trade association in Italy, shows the Italian motorcycle market was off to a good start, growing by +12.70% in February, with 8,857 units sold (up from 7,859 units in the year-ago period). There were 6,817 units sold in January, giving a YTD improvement of +8.33%. This growth will inevitably be reversed when March figures are released.
In total PTW terms, the Italian market was +9.98% through February, with 32,756 units sold (compared to 29,784 for the same period in 2019). Scooter registrations were +11.54%, with Honda's Italian made SH 150/300/125 range accounting for 3,442 of the 17,082 units sold.
The top selling motorcycle in Italy for the year so far was the BMW R 1250 GS (637 units), followed by Honda's 'Africa Twin' (610 units).
The Italian motorcycle market grew by +6.26% in 2019, with 98,883 units sold, the strongest annual market performance in Italy since before 2013. PTW sales were +5.65%, with 231,937 units sold, the strongest annual PTW market performance since 2011. The top selling motorcycle in Italy in 2019 was the BMW R 1250 GS (4,069 units); Honda's SH 150/300/125 were the top-selling scooter models (27,678 units between them).
