UK motorcycle sales +21.64 percent in June
According to the latest data released by the motorcycle industry trade association in the UK (MCIA) June saw a +21.64 percent increase in the registration of new motorcycles (12,282 units compared to 10,097 units in June 2014).
For the first six months of the year the market there is running at +15.23 percent (56,619 units compared to 49,137 units for the first six months of 2014).
This is the best June and first six months performance for the UK market since before 2009.
In total PTW terms June was +19.18 percent (13,128 units) with the year-to-date +12.91 percent (at 60,965 units).
For the year-to-date so-called 'Naked' style bikes are the top and strongest growing market sector at 16,623 units/+31.5 percent; with Adventure Sport models +22.9 percent (9,498 units) and Scooters +6.7 percent with 11,315 units.
The traditionally strong UK Supersport market is +10 percent (7,556 units), with Sport/Tourers and pure Touring models down -6.8 percent (2,212 units) and -17.5 percent (1,928 units) respectively. The UK’s custom market has grown well in recent years, and at 4,888 units was +10.9 percent for the first six months of the year.
The strongest growing sector in displacement terms is the 651-1,000 cc band, up by +26 percent for the year-to-date at 14,791 units, with the 1,000cc+ market up by +5.1 percent at 11,938 units.
The top-selling Adventure Sport model in the UK in June was the BMW R 1200 GS, with Yamaha's MT-07 ABS topping the 'Naked' style sector, each of which topped the 1,000cc+ and 650-1,000cc brackets respectively. Market share leader in the UK in June was Honda, followed by Yamaha, BMW, Triumph and Suzuki.
