Suzuki

Suzuki has reported mixed results for the first quarter (to June 30th 2014) of its current financial year

In its motorcycle business, net sales decreased by ¥4.9 billion (6.9%) to ¥65.6 billion year-on-year, mainly owing to a decrease in sales in Asia.

However, the operating loss of ¥2.7 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year turned into the black with an operating income of ¥1.0 billion, partly owing to the sales of large-displacement models which were exported in the previous fiscal year, but  stocked and sold overseas this quarter.

The company say that although income in Japan, Europe and other areas increased, the operating income in Asia decreased by ¥4.8 billion (24.3%) to ¥15.1 billion year-on-year, mainly owing to decrease in income in Indonesia and Thailand.

The company reports total worldwide sales of 301,000 units for the first quarter, down by 36,000 units from the same period last year, European unit sales at 11,000 from 15,000 a year ago. Suzuki were also down in North America at 11,000 units, from 13,000 for the year-ago quarter.
