Italy - new motorcycle registrations +5.57% to July 2026
Italy continues to show improved sales compared to 2025, with the market running at +5.57% growth through July (103,354 new motorcycles registered). As elsewhere, some statistical caution is still required as the impacts of the late 2024 Euro 5/Euro 5+ transition is still not yet fully 'out of the system'.
In motorcycle terms the first three months were +13.93% at 35,637 units registered. Then April was +3.73% (17,068 units), with May just +1.22% up at 18,118 units, June +8.07% (17,543 units) and July seeing the lowest growth rate of the year so far at -6.51% (14,988 units).
The suggestion from the data appears to be that the growth seen in Italy during the first half of 2026 may now be set to slow down in the run in to winter. The monthly rate of growth has declined for six out of the seven months so far since January 2026.
In total PTW terms the YTD data has Italy at +11.68% growth for the first seven months versus the year ago period (265,364 units), with March at +21.95% (39,606 units), April at +14.69% (43,039 units), May at +8.76% growth (47,032 units), June at +14.56% (48,623 units) and July's growth also the lowest for the year so far at +4.68% (44,647 units).
As usual, scooters dominate the YTD list of top-sellers in Italy, with Honda Italia's SH 125, 350 and 150 series taking the top three spots (30,734 units for the first seven months between them) followed by the Zontes ZT368T-G in fourth (5,641 units YTD) and the Honda X-ADV 750 in fifth (the ADV 350 is in ninth).
The top-selling larger displacement motorcycle was Honda's Africa Twin in 20th spot (2,538 units YTD). Eight of the top 20 best sellers were Hondas; with five Piaggio models, two each for Voge, Kymco and Yamaha and the one Zontes model making up the top 20 list.
The total number of new scooters registered in Italy in the first seven months of the year was up by +15.97% at 162,010 units; 103,354 were motorcycles (+5.57%), making 265,364 units in total (+11.68%).
For the record: Motorcycle registrations for the 2025 full year in Italy were put at 134,480 units (-19.22%) though the official data does not include the unsold Euro 5 models that were pre-registered in late 2024 but still (mostly) sold from dealerships in 2025.
