UK motorcycle market up

UK motorcycle market up over 12 percent for first six months

Figures released by the MCIA show that growth in the UK motorcycle market continues, with June up by 8.1 percent (10,097 units) over June 2013, with the first six months of the year up by 12.8 percent over the same period of last year at 49,137 units – the UK’s highest first half motorcycle registrations performance since 2009 (54,400 units).

In total PTW terms, the UK was up by 6.3 percent over June 2013 and is running at up 10.1 percent for the year to date at 53,994 units – also the highest seen there since the first six months of 2009 (62,412 units).

In motorcycle and total PTW registration terms, the market in the UK had appeared to stabilise in 2012, with growth seen throughout that year over 2011. However, several factors, not least weather, saw the market lose most of that growth in the first nine months of 2013, but this latest data represents 9 consecutive months of motorcycle registration growth.
