Honda motorcycle sales up for first nine months of 2014/2015 financial year
Honda Motor Co. has released its financial data for the third quarter and first nine months of its current April 2014 - March 2015 financial year (the nine months to December 31st 2014).
Honda Group motorcycle unit sales (which includes affiliates as well as Honda itself and its "consolidated" subsidiaries) were up -0.181 percent for the three months to December 31st 2014 at 4,432,000 units, and +0.629 percent for the nine months to December 31st 2014.
Excluding its affiliates, unit sales were +2.762 percent for the final quarter of the 2014 calendar year (and +0.350 percent for the nine months), indicating that sales slowed in the period October, November and December, as is to be expected.
However, on the basis of this performance so far, Honda has taken the precaution of reducing its previously announced motorcycle sales forecast for the full financial year by 135,000 units to 17,815,000 on a group-wide basis, and by 60,000 units on a Honda and "consolidated" subsidiaries basis to 10,790,000 units.
In motorcycle terms, data available from the Japanese Automotive & Motorcycle Association (JAMA) for the nine months from April to December 2014 saw Honda produce 96,916 units of all displacements and styles in Japan in the nine months to December 31st 2014, of which it sold 27,513 domestically and exported 69,403.
This places Honda second among the four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers in terms of domestic sales for the nine month period, second in terms of exports from Japan and third in terms of production in Japan; Yamaha are first in all cases.
