Athena

Seal out wheel water and contaminants

Athena says that "in off-road applications, wheel bearings and seals operate under extremely demanding conditions. Continuous exposure to mud and debris means that components require frequent washing."

However, they are drawing attention to potential for reduced component life because of that washing. "It's important to realise what happens inside the wheel system after cleaning with a high-pressure washer."

In collaboration with SKF's team of experts, "we conducted a practical test to analyze the direct impact of water and contaminants on standard seals. The results show that the ingress of residues can accelerate wear mechanisms, degrade contact surfaces and progressively compromise the performance and reliability of the wheel system."

To address these challenges, Athena relies on the SKF Heavy Duty Wheel Seal kit, engineered to ensure advanced hub protection even under the most extreme conditions.

"Thanks to its engineered design and the use of premium components and compounds, the kit - consisting of 2 seals, 2 spacers and 2 wheel bearings - ensures optimised mating surface through spacers, ensuring a more stable and effective sealing performance.

"Improved sealing efficiency, with reduced friction and power losses; enhanced protection against contamination for extended bearing service life and superior resistance to high-pressure water washing."

Athena offers nearly 60 different kit configurations for all the most popular brands and models, from Honda (seen here), Yamaha, Kawaski and Suzuki, to KTM, Husqvarna, GASGAS and Beta.
