Toni Bou - the 'King of Trials'
With another dominant performance at the final round of the TrialGP championship in the UK, Toni Bou - the 'King of Trials' - has won an incredible 38th world title and added yet another chapter to a truly extraordinary career.
His latest victory brings his total FIM World Championship titles to an astonishing 38 - 19 of them in TrialGP (outdoor) and 19 in X-Trial (indoor). "Bou had already torn up the history books several years ago, but he continues to build his legendary status and shows no sign of stopping."
The Catalan has been at the top of his sport since 2007, with no one able to dethrone him since. "He has continued to redefine what's possible on two wheels, blending supreme technical skill and balance with the relentless drive of a true champion."
Bou's weapon of choice has been Honda subsidiary the Montessa's Cota 4RT. Unlike any other available motorcycle, the low, seatless frames, large diameter wheels and tyres paired with relatively short wheelbases of Trails bikes gives them a distinctive silhouette. The Montesa Cota 4RT used by Bou is based on the commercially available model of the same name.
"Honed by HRC in cooperation with Montesa Honda, Bou's machine features a bespoke higher capacity engine powering the 70kg bike around the complex routes. A PGM-FI fuel system makes it possible to tailor engine response across varied terrains and conditions. Continuously refined over the years, the 4RT has been at the core of each and every Bou victory on the World stage since 2007."
In addition to his world titles, Bou has also won 11 national Outdoor Trial titles and helped Spain achieve 18 Trial Des Nations titles - an event that sees riders compete in a two-day Trial event representing their country, rather than their team.
