German motorcycle registrations

German motorcycle registrations +5.41 percent for the 11 months to November 2015

According to the latest data released by the motorcycle industry trade association in Germany (IVM, Essen), new motorcycle registrations in November were essentially "flat" on low volumes at +0.10 percent compared to November 2014 (2,009 units compared to 1,007), meaning that for the year-to-date (January to November 2015) the German motorcycle market was +5.41 percent (99,599 units compared to 94,477 units for the first 11 months of 2014) - already ahead of the 2014 full-year total of 96,823 units.


In total PTW terms, November was up by +4.63 percent (3,636 units) in Germany, and is +6.11 percent (at 145,800 units) for the year-to-date - already ahead of the 2014 full-year total of 140,609 units.

The top-selling motorcycle in Germany so far in 2015 is BMW’s R 1200 GS (7,086 units), followed by Yamaha's MT-07 (3,138 units) and BMW’s Nine T (2,572 units), with the Kawasaki ER-6n fourth and Yamaha MT-09 fifth.

The top-selling motorcycle manufacturer so far in 2015 is BMW with 23.10 percent of the German motorcycle market (23,008 units, +8.89 percent compared to their market share performance for the first 11 months of 2014), with Yamaha second with 11.47 percent of the German motorcycle market (11,420 units, +17.85 percent), and Kawasaki third with 10.33 percent German market share (10,286 units, +7.72 percent).

Honda are fourth with a 10.33 percent market share (10,281 units), which is down -7.02 percent on their 2014 11 month performance, and Harley-Davidson fifth with a 9.76 percent share (9,719 units), down -7.25 percent). KTM are sixth (+1.05 percent); Suzuki seventh (+8.17 percent); Ducati eighth (up by a massive +25.24 percent selling 5,637 units, 1,649 of which were Scramblers); Triumph ninth (-10.51 percent); Aprilia tenth (+17.94 percent).
