Italy - YTD 2021 motorcycle registrations +46.53% (theoretically)
According to the latest data from ANCMA (the motorcycle industry trade association in Italy and the owner of EICMA), the Italian PTW market was up by +46.53% for the first three months of the year at 60,572 units.
Motorcycle registrations for the same period were +38.03% at 26,966 units. This is hardly surprising since the year-ago period saw coronavirus lockdown taking hold and just 3,817 motorcycles sold in March 2020, compared to 12,452 last month. However, this does represent the strongest March motorcycle and PTW sales for at least ten years.
The top selling Scooter so far in 2021 has been the Piaggio 3W Delivery (3,805 units sold), followed by the Honda SH 125 and 150 (2,708 and 2,286 units respectively), and the Piaggio Beverly 300 ABS (1,887 units). The new top-of-the-range Honda Forza 750 saw 1,421 units sold YTD.
The best selling motorcycle was the Benelli TRK 502/X (1,557 units), followed by the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure (1,257), and the R 1250 GS Adventure (889 units). The top selling Ducati in its home market YTD was the much acclaimed V4 Streetfighter.
For the record - new motorcycle registrations in Italy in 2020 were -4.86% (94,108 units), having been +6.3% in 2019 (98,917 units). Total PTW registrations in Italy in 2020 were -5.76% (218,626 units), having been +5.67% in 2019 (231,985 units).
